Country Fried Rock Celebrates 2nd Anniversary
Airing Highlights Show Halloween Week; Co-Hosting AMA Eve Event at The 5 Spot; Hot New App Selects CFR; More
[FLORENCE, SC - September 5, 2013] The nationally syndicated radio show Country Fried Rock will celebrate its second anniversary with a special "Highlight Reel" show to air Halloween week. Producer and host Sloane Spencer will present encores from ten fan favorites talking about, and playing, the music that moves them:
Ray Wylie Hubbard, James McMurtry, Mary Gauthier, Browan Lollar, The dB's (Peter Holsapple), Lucero, Glossary, Band of Heathens, Jimbo Mathus, Neal Casal
In October 2011, seasoned broadcaster Sloane Spencer was getting such great feedback for her internet roots-rock-and-talk show on Live365.com, that she knew it was the right time take it to the next level. Spencer decided to make Country Fried Rock available via Public Radio Exchange and AirPlayDirect--and almost immediately radio stations began to download the program for their own listeners.
This October marks the second anniversary of CFR's first syndicated broadcast, on Wildman Steve Radio out of Auburn, Alabama. "Proud and happy to have your fine show on our station. Thank you for being true to the music and genuine in your interest," Steve recently tweeted.
Since then, Country Fried Rock had risen to influential status among music fans, radio listeners, and musicians themselves. This past July, Country Fried Rock launched a syndication push--and added several more stations in just the first week. The show has now been heard on more than 30 stations aound the world, including weekly on nearly a dozen radio affiliates.
And in what might be one of the coolest anniversary gifts a radio show could receive, AGOGO, the "Best New Audio App of 2013" according to top media strategist Mark Ramsey (more here), has just selected Country Fried Rock to be an official content provider. One of the hottest trends among tech-savvy music fans is finding ways to fulfill their desire for long-form conversational programming--in Country Fried Rock, they've found it.
"I've always been a huge fan of a wide breadth of music, and Country Fried Rock has been an incredible way to share my love for music with listeners each week, and give musicians an opportunity to talk about their music in a way that goes beyond sound bites," said Spencer. "These past two years have been an amazing whirlwind for Country Fried Rock."
September Is the AMA and Country Fried Rock Will Be There. According to a recent survey, "Americana" was the most frequently cited "favorite genre" of Country Fried Rock listeners--and each September the Americana Music Association holds its annual conference and music fest in Nashville. In advance of this year's meeting, Country Fried Rock will co-host "AMA Eve" on September 17 for Derek Hoke's popular "$2 Tuesday" show at the famed 5 Spot in East Nashville. CFR's Support of Mental Health Care for Musicians: September is Suicide Prevention Month, and September 24 is the release date for the second volume of “For Nuci’s Space,” Country Fried Rock's ongoing album project to benefit Nuci’s Space, a Georgia-based program designed to help prevent musician suicide. "For Nuci's Space Volume 2" has contributions from some of today's most exciting artists, including a never-released song from Centro-Matic and a special mix from the upcoming debut album of former Drive-By Truckers John Neff and Shonna Tucker's new band, Eye Candy.
